The Development
To create the new upper floor, we made structural modifications to the existing roof void. This included reinforcing the original trusses and installing new load-bearing supports. We also added a staircase and a lift to provide easy access between floors. Moreover, we incorporated new roof windows and internal glazing to maximise natural light throughout the building.
The mezzanine design required precise coordination between trades to ensure it was safe, visually appealing, and allowed conversations and meetings to take place without sound carrying between floors and rooms. Throughout the project, our team worked around the client’s active office operations, maintaining a safe environment with minimal disruption from start to finish.
The Result
The completed works have transformed New Start Homes’ head office, delivering a high-quality, functional upper floor that maximises the potential of the building without requiring a costly relocation. The new offices and meeting spaces provide the flexibility and capacity the client needed to support their continued growth for years to come. The new mezzanine level not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the space but also creates a stronger sense of connection across departments while greatly increasing the amount of natural light in the offices.
By working within the existing footprint, Urbanex delivered a cost-effective solution that extends the building’s usable area and futureproofs it for many years to come.
